When We All Prosper, We All Win

To a great extent, our city has been working in silos. I will listen and respond to ALL constituents of District 6, not just a privileged few. My platform is simple: When we all prosper, we all win. I am running for City Council District 6 to help bring us together, not divide us and push us further apart.

  • I am a Latina, first-generation immigrant and proud American citizen whose experience mirrors our increasingly diverse district.
  • Teacher, researcher, clinician, wife, and mother who has always made time to advocate for my community.
  • Business owner who founded and grew a successful neuropsychology practice for over a decade.
  • Experienced mental health professional with a knowledge of the justice system as it relates to mental health.
  • Life-long commitment to public service.

Hello. My name is Gina Navarrete. I am running to represent District 6, Charlotte City Council. My goals are to promote a safe and healthy community that all residents are proud to call home. I am committed to working towards smart, sustainable progress with equality and economic prosperity. I am running for office because I believe in Charlotte and when we all prosper, we all win.
I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). I then completed my Master of Science degree in Cognition and Neuroscience. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from UT Southwestern Medical Center and I completed my residency training at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Dallas, TX. I went on to complete a two-year, post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology in San Antonio at the Health Science Center and Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital.
As a mental health clinician, I have served on numerous professional boards throughout my career, advocating for patients and advancing the knowledge and standards of practice in my field.
Seeing the difficult choice patients had to make between paying a $10 or $20 copay to refill a much-needed prescription or putting food on the table for their children, I became increasingly committed to community service and patient welfare.
My commitment to public service took on even greater urgency after I attended the first Women’s March in Washington, D.C. Following this event, I helped create Charlotte’s Women’s March – an organization that focuses on women’s issues and promoting social justice – and now serve as co-president of this wonderful organization.
Today, I dedicate my time highlighting issues to mobilize voters that are specific to Women and towards making our community a safer and more equitable city.
As a Latina first-generation immigrant, healthcare professional, and proud American citizen, I have a unique perspective to representing the interest of an increasingly diverse district. I feel extremely blessed to call Charlotte my home and consider it a great privilege to be able to give back to the community as a public servant.
